The third season of Sleepy Hollow shall carry on where the Season 2 finale left off – with the resurrected Ichabod Crane and present-day police Lieutenant Abbie Mills at the moment finally able to explore their connection as partners and if fans would have it, as something more personal.

Fox released a synopsis of the upcoming season when the announcement of the renewal of the show was made back in March.

“The jaw-dropping conclusion of Season 2 left Ichabod Crane and Lieutenant Abbie Mills with a decisive, albeit heartbreaking, victory over evil. In the name of good, Crane made the ultimate decision to kill his wife, Katrina Crane. With evil seemingly at bay, the third season will explore how the partnership between Crane and Mills will evolve and what challenges these two witnesses will now face.”

According to the brief description of the show, fans of Crane and Mills will get an opportunity to witness their much-loved characters sharing more screen space in season three. For the moment, it also said that the two will have to come across more challenges in the upcoming sequel, reported Cross Map.

In a TV Line interview, Tom Mison forecasts that the upcoming season would have to tackle on the issue of culpability as his Ichabod character killed his wife to guard Abbie, and of Abbie killing his son. Mison is, nevertheless, optimistic on the advance the season 2 Finale gave the show saying, “It would definitely be a reboot. It certainly felt, after watching [“Awakening”], particularly the last 20 minutes of it, it certainly felt like we’ve acknowledged the show that everyone loved, and we can still do it.”

Crane (Mison) and Mills (Nicole Beharie) are anticipated to once again jointly take up the struggle of keeping the town of Sleepy Hollow protected from evil – over a duration of two and a half centuries.

The upcoming season returning will have a new showrunner in the person of Clifton Campbell of “The Glades” and “White Collar.”

TV Line also states that Fox president David Madden has elevated hopes for the show, Sleepy Hollow, as Campbell takes over, “I had the pleasure of working with Clifton on both ‘The Glades’ and ‘White Collar’. He is an excellent producer, and we can’t wait to see what this team has in store for Season 3.”

“‘Sleepy Hollow’ is truly inventive television,” Fox entertainment president David Madden expressed in a proclamation. “The talented producers – led by Alex, Bob, Len and Heather – along with the brilliant cast, anchored by Nicole and Tom, have created a fantastic world that brings ‘history’ to life with compelling and vibrant storytelling.”

Sleepy Hollow was co-created by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Phillip Iscove and Len Wiseman.

For quite a while there was talk that Sleepy Hollow would not get renewed mainly due to what Variety reports as the dismal slide in ratings from the 11.1  million viewers it had when it debuted in season 1, going down to 7.1 million in the second season.

Fans will have to wait quite a while for more of Ichabod Crane and Abbie Mills. Sleepy Hollow Season 3 will debut in the fall on Fox television.
