Sleepy Hollow by Fox released a new promo for the upcoming Season 2. It is setting the stage for the show’s rousing return in just a few weeks.
The promotion focused on the show’s innermost mythological figure, the headless horseman. This was released to media unfortunately with the same day the journalist being beheaded in Iraq by extremist militants video was out of the public. The campaign carried a series of “e-card” postcards featuring phrases such as “you’d forget your head if it wasn’t attached” and “does this axe make my head look small?” It also have related to a “National Beheading Day”.
The campaign aggravated a prevalent condemnation on social media for its surprisingly poor timing. The US studio 20th Century Fox then has been forced to pull the promotional media campaign for its horror TV series Sleepy Hollow. It was formed for Fox’s home entertainment division by the international marketing group ThinkJam.Fox has then issued a statement apologizing for the campaign: “We regret the unfortunate timing of our announcement. Our deepest sympathies go out to the families of all involved.”
ThinkJam has also issued an absolute apology over the mistake. It goes, “The tragic news of [journalist] Steven Sotloff’s death hit the web as the email was being sent.””Our deepest sympathies are with him and his family, and we don’t take the news lightly. Had we have known this information prior, we would have never released the alert.”
The campaign was proposed to endorse the launch of the TV series on digital platforms, DVD and Blu-ray disc on September 16. Sleepy Hollow is a current drama set in the universe of Washington Irving’s iconic 1820 short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
In the short story’s description, the “headless horseman” was an artilleryman killed in the 18th century and buried in the cemetery in Sleepy Hollow. The headless man then later returns as a ghost. In the re-booted story of the television series, the “headless horseman” is “Death”, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, a character from biblical teachings.
Sleepy Hollow focuses on a regenerated Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison), who’s tugged two and a half centuries through time to loosen a mystery that dates all the way back to America’s founding fathers. Along for the wild ride is a modern-day cop, Lt. Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie).
Orlando Jones, Katia Winter, Lyndie Greenwood, and John Noble return along with Mison and Beharie. Adding this coming season show are Timothy Busfield as Benjamin Franklin; Sakina Jaffrey as Sheriff Reyes, satisfying in for the locked up Frank Irving (Jones); Heather Lind as Mary Wells, Crane’s English ex straight out of the 18th century; Matt Barr as Nick Hawley, an arms dealer who gets drawn into Ichabod and Abbie’s work; and Aunjanue Ellis as Abbie and Jenny’s (Greenwood) mother, Lori Mills.
Season 2 of Sleepy Hollow premiers on September 22nd and will be extended of 18 episodes. Sleepy Hollow Season 1 on Blu-ray and DVD will be available on September 16th.
